mbrdrck asked:
I’m planning on visiting Japan sometime during college, but I’ve heard that meat is a large part of their diets. Should I worry too much about this or will I be able to survive there being a vegetarian?

Really…you will need to eat meat. That’s Japan…one heck of a weird culture!
P-rent added these pithy words on Feb 15 08 at 3:10 pmMy aunt is a stout veggie and has lived in Japan for over ten years. She says it is more difficult to do that there, due to the fact the fresh fruit and veg are harder to get and the culture in Japan doesn’t totally understand the vegetarian thing.
But, it is do able.

BlackDonnelly added these pithy words on Feb 18 08 at 3:05 pmJust got back from 3 weeks in Tokyo. Very little meat. Lots of fish and veggies. You’ll love it. (Expensive though.) Make sure you get down to kyoto….
opalraindrops added these pithy words on Feb 20 08 at 5:48 amI just got back from a trip to Japan, and several of the people in my group were vegetarians. One of them still ate fish, but the others ate no meat whatsoever. They made it fine, because they ate a lot of vegetables and rice and eggs and tofu, and we only had fish a couple times and beef a little because we were guests. I say go for it, because you should be able to find something to eat.
