How do you edit .WMA files?

I have some speach/ lectures recorded on a digital voice recorder and can transfer them to a computer. They are .WMA format. Can anyone tell me how to edit them to remove unwanted pauses and other errors in the dialogue. ie what file do you open them with to do this?
